A Texan flyfisherman's constant companion

The Longear Sunfish

Our mascot, the longear sunfish (Lepomis aquilensis; formerly Lepomis megalotis), is found across the great state of Texas throughout streams of all sizes. The longear sunfish is caught readily on many different fly patterns and generally makes for a good fight, regardlless of location. This species is most recognizable by its showy appearance and aggressive feeding habitats which make it an attractive, and easy to catch, target species for flyfisherman of all skill levels.
